The Roma Visitor Information Centre is housed in the Big Rig Tourist Complex on the Warrego Highway - eastern side of town. The Big Rig Tourist Complex is well signposted and there is plenty of parking available for the caravan. They have great displays on the history of oil and gas exploration in the area with beautiful walks around the park-like grounds past display of machinery used for mining. Lots to see in this complex so leave yourself plenty of time - slab hut museum, a Big Rig Night Show (light and sound spectacular), Souvenir shop, Riggers Cafe and heaps more. This oil rig was built in 1900.
We stopped at the Big Rig Visitor Information Centre to enquire about caravan accommodation for our overnight stay. The town was gearing up for a Big Easter festival in Roma which has been going for 20 years - there were only a few sites left. Staff at the information centre was very friendly, informative and were a great help in finding accommodation for the night. The shop within this centre had some really interesting gifts - I could have spent all afternoon.
