We treated ourselves to a flight with Kingfisher Tours while we were staying in Kununurra. The tour started when Matt (pilot and bus driver) picked us up from our accommodation and transported us to Kununurra airport. Every passenger had a window seat - a great thing when there is so much to see.
This flight took us over the diversion dam and up the Ord River to Lake Argyle - you can actually see how enormous this lake is from the air. We then followed the Bow River where the first Argyle diamonds were found and across the Osmond (or Osmand) Ranges which are ancient rock formations that look like a waves. Over the Bungle Bungle Range located in the Purnululu National Park where you can see the famous domes (bee hives) from the air
Next is the Argyle Diamond mine open pit then over to El Questro (million acres) and Home Valley Station (3 million acres). These properties sit beside the Gibb River Road and we could see cars crossing the infamous Pentecost River. Views of the Cockburn Ranges were not very clear due to the smoke haze from all the fires burning in the area. Next was the Wyndham tidal flats which are quite amazing from the air as you can see the beautiful patterns created by the water flows during the tidal changes. Back towards Kununurra following the Ord River and viewing the Ord River Irrigation area before landing at the airport.
This was a great flight and we spent three hours in the air - very good value. Highly recommended as a thing to do when visiting Kununurra in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia - great commentary and wonderful service from Kingfisher Tours.
