Hutt Lagoon is located on George Grey Drive between Kalbarri and Northampton in West Australia. This Lagoon is known as the Pink Lake due to the colour which is truly amazing as you can see from the photos. It really is pink even on a cloudy day.
This is a salt lake and the colour is due to the presence of carotenoid-producing algae Dunaliella salina - a source of B-carotene which is used as a food-colouring agent and source of vitamin A. This lagoon contains the world's largest micro-algae production plant and also supplies a commercial quantity of brine shrimp used by aquariums as well as prawn and fish farmers.
This lake is huge and there are several viewing areas to stop and take photos - an incredible site that needs to be seen to be believed.
