Everyone has heard of Monkey Mia and we were finally able to visit during our trip around Australia - a real highlight of our holiday and highly recommended.

Hand feeding the Dolphins is now very regulated. Each dolphin that visits during the morning feeding time is only allowed a certain number of fish. This is to ensure that the dolphins are still able to hunt naturally and teach their young. It is a wonderful experience to see these beautiful creatures up close - people are chosen from the crowd to walk into the water and feed a fish to one of the dolphins.

You are able to hire various watercraft to go into Shark Bay and explore the coastline or there are several cruises that head out each day from the jetty. Fishing is allowed from the beach down from the resort and we saw some children catch their first fish - very exciting.

The resort also has a caravan park and a fabulous restaurant overlooking the water - the food is good and there are daily specials available which are reasonably priced. You will need to purchase a pass for the day in order to visit Monkey Mia (these are available at the entrance or gift shop) - there is a great souvenir shop and information bay close to the car park.

We did a day trip to Monkey Mia and it is Beautiful. If we go again I would book a night in Monkey Mia instead of travelling in from Denham. That way you don't have to worry about travelling in the dark after a sunset cruise - which I would highly recommend doing.

The Dolphin feeding is very popular! Even if you see dolphins in your home town daily, it's amazing how close they come up and how they interact with the crowd. For wild dolphins, they are remarkable. An excellent activity if you have young kids. They said they might come up to swimmers as well, but this didn't happen to us unfortunately.

We had lunch at the restaurant which was lovely over looking the water. We also did a bush walk which is self guided around the area and saw a Goanna! We did a Dungong cruise which was ok. The dungong were only at the surface for a short period of time. I would have enjoyed it more if the company did more commentary and shared some facts about the area/the animals.
