During May we booked into the BIG4 Parkgate Grampians Resort for a few days to explore the area. We ended up staying a week in this beautiful, very comfortable caravan park. The staff were always stopping for a chat and wanting to help wherever possible. It is no surprise they won the 2016 BIG4's Peoples Choice Award. This choice award recognises the BIG4 park that rates the highest in guest ratings and reviews nationally - what a great achievement.
It is located within the Grampians National Park and walking distance to Halls Gap town centre. Boroka lookout sits above the park, and, they say if you can see the top of the mountain then head up for a spectacular view of the Fyans Valley, Wonderland and Mt William Ranges, Lake Bellfield, as well as Halls Gap itself.
We were allocated a large site backing onto Fyans Creek - just a short walk to a camp kitchen, covered barbeque area with seating and ensuite style bathrooms. Kangaroos visit the park every night and sometimes you will even see deer and emus wandering in the the nearby fields.
This BIG4 park is open and spacious with a range of caravan and camping sites including ensuite sites. These ensuite sites can be found at various locations throughout the park and were very popular for those with tents, camper trailers, and smaller caravans. You will be amazed at the range of cabins at the BIG4 Grampians Parkgate Resort - budget, studio (some with spas), three bedroom units, family apartments, cedar holiday units and the brick apartments (one and two bedroom).
This park features a large hall which is very popular with visiting groups like Probus. There is no extra charge for groups to use this facility and the managers will light the fire on cold nights to keep the place nice and warm. We were staying at the park during the Grampians Grape Escape – the wine and food festival held each year which meant the caravan park was fully booked. The hall was popular with the fire going and the AFL on the TV. The BIG4 Grampians Parkgate Resort is the perfect place to stay and an easy walk to the town centre.
Alongside reception are two full size tennis courts and a very large pool area. Two pools are featured in this fully fenced section of this park, one being heated. Too cold for me to swim in May but some of the European visitors were happy to take a dip. Outside the pool fence is a jumping pillow for the children located next to the games room and one of the camp kitchens (toilets are also provided in this building for convenience). Not far from here you will find a children's playground, basketball ring and volleyball net - plenty to keep the kids occupied.
At the far end of the park is a communal fire place which is conveniently started each evening (weather permitting) by one of the staff who supply enough wood for visitors to relax and enjoy a chat. All around the park are views of the Grampians and it is only a short drive through the National Park to enjoy some of the many walking trails lookouts and waterfalls.
The park has family bathrooms available for guests and also sell some groceries, local produce, ice and treats at reception. They also hire out a range of DVD’s and sporting equipment (including pedal go karts). I understand you can order bread and newspapers before 5 pm to be delivered to reception the next day.
Dump Point (an important feature for some caravan owners ) can be found in the back corner of the park screened by a fence on two sides, with gardens planted to soften the outlet. They have even installed a sink on one of the fences to enable users to wash hands after emptying their cassette. Very thoughtful.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the lovely BIG4 Parkgate Grampians Resort and highly recommend this beautiful location when you decide to venture in and explore The Grampians National Park.
