Goondiwindi is well known for a horse named Gunsynd who won numerous races around the country after being purchased for about $1200. He was known as the Goondiwindi Grey and is listed as one of Queensland’s icons - in 2005 was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame.
Gunsynd Memorial Park and Statue can be found in Apex Park near the intersection of Gunsynd Way and Macintrye Street - on the banks of the Macintyre River. The Goondiwindi Grey was the only horse to win every race along the eastern seaboard and is still a legend - there are trophies and memorabilia of this remarkable horse on display at the VIC and Library.
