Goondiwindi is well known for a horse named Gunsynd who won numerous races around the country after being purchased for about $1200. It was known as the Goondiwindi Grey and is listed as one of Queensland’s icons - in 2005 was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame.
The Goondiwindi Visitor Information Centre (VIC) and Library have various trophies and memorabilia of this remarkable horse on display. The VIC is located within the same building as the local library which has internet access and work stations available for visitors.
The VIC was very helpful with maps and things to do around town, and can be accessed from Bowen Lane and Marshall Street (the main street through town).
