Boab trees are quite amazing and a real feature of the Kimberley region of Western Australia. It is said that the largest tree in captivity is growing in the Wyndham Caravan Park and thought to be over 2,000 years old, measuring about 20 metres around the girth - this tree dwarfs anyone who stands beside it.
I love the shape of the Boab tree and each one seems unique - sometimes they grow in clusters and sometimes they are just sitting out there on their own in the middle of the bush. Aboriginals used these trees for shelter, food and medicine. Apparently they were also used as prison cells by white settlers.
