Wyndham Port is of great historical importance to the Kimberley as this was a major cattle loading facility for export. Some live cattle are still shipped from here as well as transportation of other produce grown in the area - it also services the local nickel mine. The Port leads into the Cambridge Gulf and ships have to deal with large tidal variances - up to 8.7 metres - hard to imagine the height differences.
There are a number of historical buildings around the Port and it is well worth a visit - take a look at the new jetty.
