Punka Pub Porepunkah

After looking around the small town of Porepunkah we decided to stop at the Porepunkah Hotel, known as the Punka Pub for a pre-dinner drink. Roadworks were being undertaken along the front road but there were plenty of car parking spaces around the side of the building. What a surprise when you walk inside.

Newly renovated with some amazing woodwork. Check out the door with bottoms of wine barrels inserted into the door front. Very friendly service and we enjoyed a drink in the outside area - strip heaters to keep us warm as the late afternoon air was a little chilly. In fact we had such a lovely chat with the manager that we decided to stay for dinner. It was early so we were able to find a table for two and it did not take long for the other tables to fill up with visitors arriving for a meal. Orders are taken in a small room next to the dining room and meals are delivered to the tables (make sure you know your table number).

The dining room is a lovely open room interesting lighting and seating. Check out the room supports – seem to be made up of a mixture of architectural columns. The meal was delicious – lasagna with chips and salad as well as pumpkin, spinach cannelloni with chips and salad.

Make sure you use the toilet after dining and marvel at the fish tanks and large historical pictures decorating the bathrooms.

You can also stay at the Punka Pub in one of the five king rooms and be in the centre of town.
