After spending the day in the Mount Buffalo National Park we called in to sample olives at Mt Buffalo Olives before returning to our accommodation at the BIG4 Porepunkah Holiday Park.
This olive farm was developed by Colin and Elisa Bertuch. We were met by Elisa at the door of the tasting room (on the verandah of their house up on the hill) and were made to feel very welcome – even introducing us to the family pets. A small room for tasting with a lot to offer and great views over the farm and valley.
They have a variety of olives for tasting as well as olive oils, quince and fruit paste, dukkah and something I had never heard of called tomato Kasoundi. Elisa explained that this is an Indian style tomato chutney which can be hot.
The lemon olive oil was our favourite and we also purchased olives and dukkah.
Make sure you check out the Wollemi pine growing beside the car park. This is a very unusual pine that was only re-discovered about 20 years ago.
Mt Buffalo Olives also has a fully self-contained farm stay cottage available as an accommodation option when visiting Porepunkah and/or Mount Buffalo National Park. It is called Karoonda Olive Grove Retreat and can be booked on 03 5756 2143.
