Yorke Peninsula

We enjoyed our caravan adventure around the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia and stayed at some lovely caravan parks while checking out the sites.  Some of our highlights:

• Port Broughton - beautiful parkland along the esplanade
• Kadina - Visitor Information Centre and Farm Shed Museum a must see.
• Wallaroo - interesting port with history of copper mining - Hooked on Fish & Chips recommended for takeaway crumbed King George Whiting
• Wallaroo North Beach Caravan Park - a Top Holiday Park which is just lovely - clean, extremely well maintained and plenty of activities for the children plus is sits alongside a lovely safe swimming beach
• Point Turton Caravan Park in an old Flux Quarry (protected from the wind) and adjacent to jetty and boat ramp
• Point Turton - Tavern on Turton with great views of Hardwicke Bay.  Try a "Wicchetty Grub" from the Point Turton Store Bakery
• Innes National Park - magnificent view  - lighthouses - Inneston Historic Township built when Gypsum was mined in the area - lovely beaches
• Marion Bay - delicious wood fired pizzas from the Marion Bay Tavern
• Corny Point Lighthouse and the Howling Dog Tavern
• Inland Sea - Restaurant and seafood sales - great smoked fish and amazing kilpatrick sauce for oysters
• Yorketown - Bakehouse for a London Bun - second hand shop in the historic Masonic building is the best organised one of its type I have ever seen
• Edithburgh - largest mass grave in Australia from a shipwreck off the coast - nice caravan park on the water
• Stansbury - markets held along the waterfront - Blue Lime Cafe for delicious food and great gifts
• Port Vincent - interesting walking cycling track along waterfront, past the beautiful marina and up along the cliff edge - Ventnor Hotel, Port Vincent Deli (Takeaway) and butcher worth visiting. 
• Port Vincent Foreshore Caravan Park - great location, friendly service and best camp kitchen we have seen. Located on the waterfront - we even saw people fishing while standing behind their caravan.
• Ardrossan - fabulous baker. Parking at the end of the main street with amazing views of cliffs and jetty.

There are plenty of things to see and do on the Yorke Peninsula and we plan to head back soon as this is a lovely, friendly part of the country.  We were quite amazed by the amount of wheat and barley grown in this area and were surprised to see crops almost to the water's edge.
