Eldo Hotel - Woomera

Fellow travellers had advised us to call into the ELDO bar for a drink while visiting Woomera in South Australia - glad we did.  ELDO stands for European Launcher Development  Organisation (ELDO) and this place was built as a mess when this project began. The space research organisation consisted of Belgium, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands, with Australia an associate member. The initial launch site was in Woomera - thus the ELDO hotel.

There is a large bar area with indoor and outdoor seating - the outside seating has great views of the surrounding desert landscape. The Restaurant  menu changes to suit the season as well as offering traditional Aussie pub classics and a wide range of pizzas - I understand the meals are quite large. It was a friendly, relaxing place to enjoy an afternoon drink.

The ELDO Hotel has a variety of accommodation - deluxe ensuite rooms, budget and backpacker accommodation as well as self catering apartments. It is located in the centre of Woomera  just off the Stuart Highway and within walking distance to the shops, swimming pool and Visitor Information Centre and Rocket Museum.
