Andamooka is a very small opal mining town in South Australia - not far from Lake Torrens and about 114 kilometres from the Stuart Highway, Pimpa Road intersection.
We went for a day trip to Andamooka from our caravan park at Woomera and were advised to call into the Tuckerbox Hotel for lunch. The walls of the building have been created out of stone which also surrounds the huge covered verandah running along the front of the pub. This makes a beautiful cool place to sit and enjoy a cold drink out of the hot weather. Inside there is a lovely wooden bar - one piece of polished red timber.
We stayed for lunch and enjoyed a huge hamburger and cold beer with friendly country service.
The Tuckerbox Hotel sits next to the bottle house - a room made entirely of glass bottles cemented together at the front entrance to the Post Office. Across the road are several historic mining cottages to explore and it was amazing how cool it was inside these low stone buildings.
