Andamooka is a very small opal mining town in South Australia - about 114 kilometres from the Pimba Roadhouse on the Stuart Highway. Information on things to see and do in town can be obtained from the post office - you cannot miss this building as there is room built out of bottles sitting at the entrance. This outlet sells a large variety of gifts, clothing, cards and wraps as well as beautiful hand polished opals.
The staff were the owners of the shop and have an opal mine - very interesting to talk to about the quality of the stones found in this area and the differences in opal colour. We found them to be very helpful and friendly with advice on this small community.
There are several historic mining cottages in the main street and it was amazing how cool it was inside these stone buildings.
