We first saw the Aeroplus Wind Deflector on a car in Port Macquarie and thought 'what a great idea'. So we bought the Aeroplus Wind Deflector hoping to save on fuel costs when towing the caravan.
Installation was a little tricky and took about an hour or so to complete (it would be much faster the second time, after you had worked out some of the installation tricks). The Aeroplus Wind Deflector traveled well, did not increase wind noise and we did not hear any vibrations from the roof racks. All good.
To see how well the Aeroplus Wind Deflector worked, we recorded our fuel consumption on several trips between Harrington and Port Macquarie, towing our Jayco 21' Stirling Outback caravan - with and without the Aeroplus Wind Deflector. Our speed, the time of day and the wind conditions were consistent for all trips.
Surprisingly, our fuel consumption went up by 10%. It did not make sense, so we re-positioned the deflector as per the instructions but the fuel consumption figures remained the same.
We contacted our supplier caravansplus.com.au and the importer Purple Line. Both parties agreed to return the product for a full refund. Great service.
Conclusion
We have seen many Aeroplus Wind Deflectors on the road and have chatted to their owners who seem very happy. From our experience, we believe that some vehicle/caravan combinations (varying aerodynamics) work better than others. Unfortunately, our Land Rover Discovery 4 and Jayco 21' combination did not benefit from the Aeroplus Wind Deflector.
We are keen to hear from other owners who would like to share their experiences with the Aeroplus Wind Deflector.
