Monto is a small town in Queensland about 300 kilometres north of Kingaroy along the Burnett Highway. The road between these two towns is very bumpy and the car and van were being bounced around - after 300 kilometres we had to stop for the night.
Called at the VIC which was a small cottage housing brochures and maps but no staff. Behind the centre is a community rest area which is an area beside the old railway tracks and $5 per night. The onsite caretaker came to lock up the VIC and we started chatting and said we would stay but were not carrying any water. He told us we could fill up at the tap near the dump point and we decided to try this Community Rest area for an overnight stay.
We parked next to the railway line which was very level and convenient to town. Across the road from the Rest Area is the Grand Hotel a great place for a cold drink and lovely meal. We enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to recommend this great spot to fellow travellers where you can stay for up to 72 hours.
