Wickham is a small community in West Australia, north of Karratha and found along the Point Samson-Roebourne Road. We were staying at the caravan park at Point Samson and decided to call into Wickham for supplies on our way home from Karratha.
The community looked quite nice from the road but not so good when you get up close. The shops were all covered with security mesh and are not very inviting. Woolworths supermarket is small but adequate with everything we needed. Petrol was expensive but we filled up anyway - when you need to re-fuel you have to pay the price.
Wickham is a mining town with a population in excess of 1,600 people and is close to the ocean - access to Boat Beach is via Walcott Drive. This is a good swimming and snorkelling area with a nearby boat ramp allows fisherman access to the water. Not far from Wickham is Cape Lambert with a 2.7 kilometre open sea wharf capable of loading four major iron ore carriers at the same time - amazing.
