Bright

Bright is a beautiful little town in Victoria which seems to be popular with tourists during all seasons of the year.  We were lucky enough to visit Bright during autumn and witness the trees beginning to change colour - what an amazing sight.

We stayed at the BIG4 Bright Holiday Park which is full of beautiful trees, located on the Ovens River and just a short walk to town. This is a great spot for a holiday and Bright is only a short drive to Mount Beauty, Hall's Creek, Harrietville (trout farm), Mount Buffalo National Park, and much more. There is so much to do.

I must say we have never seen so many cyclists on the road but this place has everything - up hill climbs, down hill runs, mountain bike riding on the amazing tracks at Mystic Mountain, family cycle to Wandiligong for lunch at the Wandi Pub and explore the Rail Trail which runs from Wangarrata to Bright. Needless to say many of the caravan parks around town have bike cleaning stations and storage cages. 

Some of the things we did while staying in Bright:

• Bright Brewery – very popular
• Riverside Café – lovely music being played on Saturday afternoon/evening.  Tables outside overlooking the river.  
• Star Hotel 
• Alpine Hotel at the clock tower (roundabout) – Range of Pizzas available in main bar area.  Dining room had a good atmosphere and great food
• Bright water park located near the junction of the Ovens River and Moores Creek. This water play area is surrounded by beautiful parkland, picnic tables, barbeque facilities etc.
• Morning tea at Ginger Baker - great setting overlooking the river
• Mystic Mountain – paragliding. Steep climb to cleared area at the top which supposedly has a very good thermal updraft. A huge mountain bike riding area.  Great trails and double black diamond runs through the pine forests.
• Wondiligong Pub
• Harrietville.  Mountain Fresh Trout and Salmon Farm. Stony Creek Road. Harrietville – a small village which I am sure is busy during snow season.
• Canyon Walk.  This is a walk along the river in Bright with a path on either side and two suspension bridges - very popular 
• Bright Chocolate Bean Bar.  Crafting chocolate on the premises from single origins.
• Bike shop for Mystic Mountain Bike Park trails – a gold coin donations to help further expand the trails.  This is located on the main street.

Of course I would recommend a visit to the bright Visitor Information Centre. We found the staff very helpful with places to see and maps of the area. The VIC sells a range of local produce including a huge selection of local wine - very reasonable prices.
