Tors Drive-In Cinema is located at the intersection of New Queen Road and the Flinders Highway on the outskirts of Charters Towers (as you head towards Townsville). This Drive-In Cinema opened in 1966 and is one of the oldest drive-in theatres in Queensland.
Tors screen a double feature program - you pay the one price for a choice of two movies, and you can either tune your radio to the Cinema's FM station (90.5 FM), or use the speakers the old fashioned way. No car, no problem as seats are provided in the foyer - we stayed at the Aussie Oasis Cabin and Van Village just down the road so walking was a good option. There is a cafeteria selling fish and chips, dagwood dogs, burger, drinks, snacks and of course choc tops (my favourite).
Movies are screened from Thursday to Sunday nights as well as school holidays. Tors advertise on boards around town and in the local newspaper (The Northern Miner), or you can check out their website. We just happened to drive past while exploring Charters Towers and found the current movies displayed on the sign out front. Can't wait to visit again and head out to see another movie at a Drive-In Cinema - relive the old days!
