The Alice Springs Visitor Information Centre is located in Todd Mall – you need to find a park and then walk to the centre - we discovered some short term parking on Parsons Street at the Todd River end (if you are lucky).
This centre is open seven days a week - 8:30 am to 5 pm on weekdays and 9:30 am to 4 pm on weekends or public holidays. This is a relatively new building with lots of interactive screens to see what tours are available and provide information on tourist destinations. There is so much to see and do around this central part of Australia and the town has a rich history and culture. Learn about the indigenous people who live in outback Australia and their amazing understanding of this harsh landscape - how they use the plants for food and/or medicine and how to locate water.
We collected a number of maps and brochures and spoke to local people working at the counters regarding what to see and when was the best time. They have a range of information on tours, attractions, accommodation, upcoming events, transport and travel tips.
The famous Ghan train passes through Alice Springs on its journey from Adelaide to Darwin - another great way to see the Red Centre.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Alice Springs and advise you to start with a trip to the Visitor Information Centre in order see as much as possible during your holiday.
