AELEC – The Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre is an amazing facility in Tamworth and opened in 2008. This complex needs to be seen to be believed with indoor arenas, undercover stables and a large outdoor area for horse jumping and dressage practice.
We drove in one day to have a look around and found one of the indoor arenas where they were practicing horse jumping. AELEC apparently attracts around 5000 competitors and over 6000 horses to the centre each year – not to mention more than 13000 cattle and rodeo animals to other events. This wonderful facility has been built on 62 hectares. Apparently they can house a large number of cattle in yards under the main arena.
I recommend that you head out to AELEC near the Golden Guitar and Visitor Information Centre and take a look around. You may even be lucky enough to attend one of their events. There are plenty of parking spaces alongside the arena and I can not to express how great this place is - I have never seen anything like it.
