Heatherbrae Pies is a favourite stop of ours when travelling along the Pacific Highway to or from Sydney. It is located on the big roundabout to Raymond Terrace near Newcastle - about two hours north of Sydney and two hours from home (perfect place to have a rest stop). They are open from 6 am seven days a week and have a great range of pies and cakes. If you call in for breakfast you can have croissants, raisin toast, banana bread or try the break fast pie - Ned Kelly with steak mince baked with egg, bacon and cheese with a sprinkle of chives and coarse pepper. Of course they also sell coffee and tea and a range of cold drinks.
All the pies are cooked on the premises - during the busy period they seem to be baking all day. My husband's favourite is the Bushman's Pie - chunky beef, onions and bacon, simmered with carrots, parsnips and mushrooms. You can also buy family pies to take home (fresh or frozen) and party pies and sausage rolls in frozen packs.
Heatherbrae Pies provides plenty of parking - there is even a space out the back (across the access road) for boats and caravans.
