Hanging Rock is a small place in northern NSW - about 13 kilometres from Nundle and 71 kilometres from Tamworth. The area is named after the rocks that seem to just hang from the sides of the surrounding hills. The Hanging Rock Lookout is not far from the houses of Hanging Rock and a dirt road takes you to the parking area which has a picnic table overlooking the valley below. – of course we had a picnic at the Hanging Rock. This road is narrow and not suitable for caravans or buses.
It is a short walk from the parking area to the lookout itself and you are literally perched on the edge of a rock looking out over the beautiful gum trees back towards Nundle.
