Fitzroy Crossing is on the Great Northern Highway between Halls Creek and Broome in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia. This is a fairly small town and is set on the banks of the Fitzroy River - a great base to explore the area - Geike Gorge, Crossing Inn, Tunnell Creek, Windjana Gorge and Mimbi caves etc.
We stayed here for a couple of days at the Fitzroy River Lodge which has a motel, restaurant/bar and large caravan park - located just outside of town. The IGA supermarket in town is well stocked and they keep all fruit, vegetables as well as refrigerated items in a cool room as the outside temperature can be very hot.
The Visitor Information Centre has great displays of locally made products - including Dr Sawfish's glass items made in Fitzroy Crossing (you can visit the hot glass studio and see these beautiful products being created).
