While staying in Broome Western Australia we decided to take a camel ride on the famous Cable Beach - after all this is what you see on all the brochures. We chose Broome Camel Safaris - the Camels in Blue, and our ride set off about 3:15 pm, arriving back in time for the Sunset Experience to depart.
My husband and daughter rode on a camel together and it was the largest in the team - weighing about 1.1 tonne. My camel was the last in the row and had been found in the wild only 12 months earlier - it stuck very close to the camel ahead as a sort of a guide I guess. Camels are very large but seem to be gentle creatures.
The staff were very good and instructed everyone on the best way to get on and off the camels. I must say that getting on was much easier than trying to swing my leg over the camel at the end of the ride to dismount. The camels are led in a long line along the beach with the handlers walking beside taking photos and telling you a little bit about your particular camel along the way. This was a fun thing to do and I am very pleased we decided to go with The Camels in Blue.
