The town of Kerang is located between Swan Hill and the agricultural community of Cohuna in Victoria. Kerang's Visitor Information Centre can be found at the Lester Smith Lookout Tower, on the corner of Wellington Street and Shadforth Street (the main road through town near Woolworths supermarket). This tower was built in 1883 for water storage and there is a viewing area at the top with panoramic views.
The Visitor Information Centre is next to the John Gorton Library and across from the council park with beautiful gardens. Markets were being held in the park during our visit and we purchased some homemade products for Christmas presents. These markets were small but friendly. The Kerang Historical Museum is also in Atkinson Park and houses historical farm machinery and cars from the local area.
This is a lovely town with tidy streets, well maintained median strips and gardens as well as interesting shops - my favourite was the red gum furniture outlet with absolutely amazing solid timber tables tops.
