Yeppoon is a coastal town and locality in the Shire of Livingstone, Central Queensland, Australia. Yeppoon is renowned for its beaches, tropical climate, and the islands out on the bay. Twenty-five minutes from the city of Rockhampton, Yeppoon is the principal town on the Capricorn Coast, a string of seaside communities stretching more than 150 kilometres (93 mi) from north to south. The beaches and shallow coves provide a destination both for tourists and miners settling down in Central Queensland. Offshore, there are 27 islands including Great Keppel Island which is 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Yeppoon. © Wikipedia

Yeppoon is about 40 kilometres drive from Rockhampton on the coast of Queensland and the access point for a Great Keppel Island adventure. After setting up the van in a caravan park located on the Bruce Highway in Rockhampton we drove to Yeppoon to take a look at some of the sights and other caravan parks.
Our first stop was the Visitor Information Centre next to a large roundabout at the intersection of Yeppoon Road and Appleton Drive (Scenic Highway). There is a car parking area alongside the VIC building and very helpful staff inside armed with plenty of information on accommodation, tours and things to see along the coast. There is a large shell display beside the main area, and they sell a range of local produce. Toilets are available at the Centre. Very nice council caravan park along Farnborough Road which sits on the beach called Beachside Caravan Park. I understand this is a council caravan park which is very conveniently located close to shops, restaurants, clubs, cafes etc. This is a long caravan park with plenty of powered caravan sites that allow ocean views. Drove to Wreck Point with great views of the headland and beach – off Matt Flinders Drive. Not far from this viewing location is another caravan park (Poinciana Tourist Park) with lush tropical gardens and plenty of grassed areas for camping.
Further down the Yeppoon coast we found Rosslyn Bay and the Keppel Bay Marina where you would depart for a boat for a trip to Great Keppel Island. Lovely marina with boat club and boat ramps which provides a large car parking area for visitors. Head up the headland for view of the beach and several small islands just off the coast.
A little further along Capricorn Coast Tourist Drive we found the BIG4 Capricorn Palms Holiday Village. This park is located in the middle of suburbia but what a wonderful fun park for children. As you drive down the palm lined entrance you will see a large enclosed children’s play area including jumping pillow etc. On the other side of the driveway is a water slide, pool and a separate pool with spa (fully enclosed). The Reception area is behind a wonderful terraced garden up a few steps. Alongside the reception is a large screen for outdoor movies. The viewing area has been created with terraced seating on grass up the side of a hill. Music is played during the day. As you would expect this park was very busy with families enjoying a lovely Queensland holiday.
I look forward to heading back along the Queensland Coast and spend a relaxing holiday at Yeppoon.
