Cooktown Visitor Information Centre

Natures Powerhouse Visitor Information Centre in Cooktown can be found at the entrance to the Botanic Gardens, Walker Street. Unfortunately the Bontanic Gardens were closed during our visit to Cooktown due to a recent cyclone.

The Visitor Information Centre is a must see during your stay in town. Not only does it supply all the information for visiting Cooktown and/or heading up to Cape York but it has a great gallery and gift shop. There are some really interesting displays and history of life in Far North Queensland - read some of the amazing stories of survival after snake bites in the bush or bravery after a crocodile attack. We spent several hours at Natures Powerhouse as there is so much to see.

The gift shop is full of locally made woodwork, books and beautiful prints of plant and animals. Also within this building is a lovely cafe with a large covered eating area overlooking wonderful gardens. The Visitor Information Centre is not on the main road but I definitely think it is worth a visit.
