National Road Transport Hall of Fame (next to Ghan Museum) costs $15 per head to enter and is well worth it. It is located on Norris Bell Avenue not far from the airport - drive along the Stuart Highway towards South Australia and you will see the signs.
There are several buildings and a large outdoor area housing a large number of old truck and cars. This place provides a great history lesson on how road transport developed in this country and the unique characters that travel miles delivering produce, live animals and various items all over Australia.
The Kenworth Building is only new and and needs to be seen to be believed with a wonderful display of trucks – new and old. Some trucks have been restored for display and the story board gives information about the date of build and how far they have travelled – unbelievable to think that they do several million kilometres over their lifetime. Some of these trucks were in service for 24 plus years – very reliable.
This place has some great stories of people involved in the transport industry from all around Australia. Highly recommended - we thoroughly enjoyed visiting the National Road Transport Hall of Fame in Alice Springs.
