Port Macquarie Breakwall is a hugely popular place in Port Macquarie with a continuous stream of people walking along the path at the side of the Hastings River. At one end of the breakwall you will find a skate park and Town Beach and at the other end you will find the CBD with great cafes and restaurants. This is also a very popular spot for fishing and we saw several catches during our stay - blackfish mostly.
The path along this iconic breakwall is lined with rocks which are brightly decorated with all sorts of artwork displaying various inscriptions from lovely poems or pictures to lists of holiday makers who have visited the area. We have found over the years that these rocks have changed as new visitors paint their message over the top of a previous artwork - great fun to wander along and read.
During our last visit we saw several pods of dolphins heading along the river at the change of tide - it was great to see the excitement of the children to be able to see dolphins up close.
The Sundowner Breakwall Caravan Park is located on one side of the path and we choose to stay here when holidaying in Port Macquarie, within walking distance to shops, bars, cafes, restaurants and beaches.
