The Kennedy Highway (Highway 1) is a highway in northern Queensland, Australia. It runs for approximately 243 km from Smithfield, on the northern outskirts of Cairns, to the Gulf Developmental Road in the vicinity of Forty Mile Scrub and Undara Volcanic national parks, about 40 kilometres south of Mount Garnet. South of this junction, the road continues as the Kennedy Developmental Road (State Highway 62) via Hughenden eventually to Boulia about 936 kilometres away; National Route 1 and the Gulf Developmental Road head west to Normanton via Georgetown.© Wikipedia
We travelled along the Kennedy Developmental Road from Forty Mile Scrub (junction of the Gulf Developmental Road) to the Lynd Junction. This road is fully sealed and we had no trouble towing the caravan. I am not sure of the condition of the road after this point as we continued our journey along the Gregory Developmental Road towards Charters Towers.
The Oasis Roadhouse at Lynd Junction is definitely worth a stop for friendly service and to have a look at the smallest bar in Australia - of course we had to have a drink.
