The Gulf Developmental Road links the Cairns and Normanton regions in northern Queensland, Australia. It is the only sealed (asphalt) road linking these two regions.© Wikipedia
We drove along the Gulf Development Road in Queensland towing our caravan - from Normanton to the intersection of the Kennedy Development Road. Some sections of this road are still single width so you need to be very aware of road-trains heading in either direction. If one of these huge trucks was heading towards us we would always indicate, then pull off the road and let the road-train stay on the tar. This practice reduces the amount of rocks flung up by the tyres of the truck.
Along the length of the Gulf Development Road are several single lane bridges or tight bends. My suggestion is that you keep your UHF radio turned in to the truck channel (Ch 40) so that the trucks can give a warning over the radio that they are approaching. We would then pull over as safely as possible and wait for the truck to come through.
