During our recent drive from Bright to Halls Creek in the alpine region of Victoria we stopped at Tawonga South and Mt Beauty to take a look around. First port of call was the Mount Beauty Caravan Park (technically in Tawonga South) - The Mount Beauty Holiday Centre. They proudly say this is a family park run by a family for families. What a beautiful setting along the edge of a clear mountain creek (Kiewa River West Branch). This owners/managers of this park were very welcoming and more than happy for us to look around.

We would not like to tow our van up the road from Bright but people staying in the park informed us that the road from Wadonga, through Yackandandah and Dederang was a much better way to reach Mount Beauty.

The caravan park is flat and open with plenty of grass and shade trees. Fire pits have been created at various locations around the park and visitors were sitting around several of these enjoying a relaxing afternoon. This is a great way to meet other guests and some were even situated in the middle of a circular parking area – easy access for each caravan or camper.

There are two amenities blocks – one with unsiex toilets and showers. The park has several YURT style cabins that looked very interesting and I understand very popular with visitors. There is a recycling area in the park to dispose of cardboard, paper, plastic, glass - I try to recycle whenever I can.

There are really lovely camp sites along the river where you can just relax, enjoy the view and listen to the water trickling by. This is the perfect place for bush walkers, snow enthusiasts, bike riders wishing to tackle the surrounding hills. and keen fishermen (and women) trying to catch a local trout).

There are a range of sporting activities throughout the park with Tennis Court, volley ball net, basketball ring, table tennis and even a cricket pitch, etc – not to mention the indoor spa. We could certainly spend a relaxing week or two at this friendly park - who like to have Happy Campers.

Mount Beauty Holiday Centre is situated in the heart of the beautiful Kiewa Valley, North East Victoria, just a short walk to the supermarket, Cafes, Settlers Tavern, bike/ski hire, take-away shops, newsagent, milk bar, post office and bus station.

They have a range of self-contained accommodation, function/meeting room, catering facilities, free activities for children, fully equipped camp kitchens as well as barbeque facilities. We look forward to heading back to Mount Beauty (Tawonga South) soon to stay at this lovely park.
