We called into the BIG4 Bendigo Ascot Holiday Park to take some photos and have a look around this conveniently located park just off the Calder Highway - as you drive into Bendigo from the north. This is a neat park on the outskirts of Bendigo and well sign-posted from the Calder Highway - easy to find.
There are a range of cabins (Studio Cabins to three bedroom, two bathroom villas), as well as powered and unpowered caravan and camping sites. Some of the lovely family villas have decks that overlook the jumping pillow, mini golf and the children's playground - convenient. Another plus, on the decks of many villas is a gate across the top of the stairs to keep toddlers safely enclosed, meaning mum (or dad) can relax for a little while.
The park seems to be surrounded by relatively new fencing and the gardens are neat and tidy. A pool sits near reception and the entrance to the park which features a heated spa. This is a welcoming area surrounded by grass and plenty of seating options with lovely shrubs planted around the outside. Looks inviting.
There are a number of activities of the children which include a jumping pillow (with shade sails), mini golf, open grassed areas, children’s playground (with shade sails), 1/2 basketball court, recreation room, and even a toddlers play room. Alongside the jumping pillow are three large picnic tables to sit and watch the kids and these are conveniently located near a covered barbeque area. Near the entrance to the park is a lovely swimming pool and spa - surrounded by grass with plenty of seating options.
The roads around the caravan park are gravel and there are plenty of trees for shade. The un-powered caravan or camping sites are close to the barbeque facilities and only a short distance to the camp kitchen.
BIG4 Bendigo Ascot Holiday Park is conveniently located near the Bendigo Racecourse and Jockey Club where they recently held the Red Hot Summer concert featuring a number of Australian bands - people staying at the park told us they could hear the music but it was not a problem.
It is easy access to the centre of town and we found the staff to be very helpful.
The BIG4 Bendigo Marong Holiday Park is in a lovely bush setting situated about 15 kilometres from the Bendigo Visitor Information Centre and CBD. What a beautiful warm welcome we received from Deb and Brett who have worked hard over the last few years to create this beautiful caravan park.
We were allocated a great site with a concrete slab - site number 22 which is surrounded by Agapanthus plants and nicely shaded by mature trees making it feel like you have your own private garden within the park. The access to this site has been very well designed with a slanted driveway leading to caravan parking spot. Plenty of room for car and awning. There are a couple of ensuite powered sites in this section of the park and these too have lovely garden areas.
The grounds are beautifully presented with gravel roads and grassed or slab powered sites with some drive-through sites for those only wishing to stay one night. There are a range of cabins from budget, to superior with their own barbeque sitting on the covered deck.
What an amazing park for children -
Pool – what a lovely feature near the entrance and reception area of the BIG4 Bendigo Marong Holiday Park. A large fully fenced area with three (yes three) separate shade structures over seating to relax by the pool or to watch the kids. Two shaded areas have sun lounges and one area has three two seater chairs. The pool itself is partly covered by a shade sail.
Recreation Room - fully enclosed and not far from the pool or reception. This room has a table tennis table, two big lounges, a large TV, dining table with seats, lots of extra plastic seating stacked in the corner, as well as a sink and fridge. They even have a slow combustion fire in the corner to keep you cosy during colder months. I would loved to have visited this park when my children were growing up.
Amenities - it seems that Brett and Deb try to think of everything to make your stay comfortable. At one end of the amenities block is an enclosed, modern kitchen with bench, oven, cook top, sink and fridge. Outside this room is a large covered area with heaps of seating and barbeque facilities – plus a machine that dispenses coffee. Created alongside this area is a herb garden to use while cooking. Two water features in a lovely garden area outside the entrance to the ladies toilets help make this section of the park very attractive.
During our first night at the park we walked the short distance along the road to enjoy dinner at the Marong Family Hotel (MFH) and tried some of their delicious signature lamb dishes.
I would highly recommend this BIG4 park at Marong whenever you want to pay a visit to the Bendigo area. They even provide caravan storage. Why not give them a call.
BIG4 Bendigo Park Lane Holiday Park is a huge park and, upon entry, you are drawn to the brightly coloured cabins lining the road leading to the office/reception area and guest's parking bays. This park can be found on the McIvor Highway (about 6.5 kilometres form Bendigo CBD) - a very convenient location for those travelling to and from Melbourne.
There are a range of cabins within the park from budget to deluxe villas and a variety of powered caravan or camping sites, some with ensuites. These are especially helpful for those travelling with sick or disabled partners who needs quick access to a toilet or help in the shower. This neat and tidy holiday park has a very large pool area which contains toddlers pool, spa and swimming pool. There are several shade sails over the pool area with a variety of seating options on the grass. Open and neat. Other features in this park for children - a large jumping pillow (fully shaded) and lovely children’s playground plus Parky’s Wonderland - an amazing multi-level indoor play area behind reception. The internal door off the camp kitchen opens into a very large games room complete with three long lounges, large screen TV, pool table (equipment can be hired from reception), and an air hockey table.
Opposite the reception and office is an enormous covered barbeque area with heaps of seating – a large stainless steel bench, small fridge, electric barbeques and a sink. This area sits alongside the enclosed camp kitchen which contains a dining table with chairs, coffee machine, plenty of bench space, microwave, fridge, jug, toaster, upright stove, cutting boards and a range of cups, plates pots and pans. Underneath the sink you will find drying racks, washing up detergent and even a range of clean tea towels.
The amenities are old but clean and this building also houses a large laundry – a code is required to enter the amenities and you need to press a green button to exit - interesting. Within the ladies amenities is a stall that houses a bath tub for those wanting to soak for a while during the holidays. Excellent.
The amenities block also features a very nice family bathroom which is equipped with bath, toilet, change table, sink etc.
BIG4 Bendigo Park Lane Holiday Park has a lovely feel with nice bright colours everywhere, with very neat, well maintained gardens. A nice place for a family holiday.
