Waikerie Caravan Park is located on the main road into Wakerie from Cadell - near the intersection of Peake Terrace and Leonard Norman Drive. We stopped to look around during our trip from Mannum to Renmark in South Australia. This park is large with flat sites, plenty of shade and very welcoming staff. The current caravan park is becoming a leisure village with small homes erected for people over 55 and I understand the pool and some other facilities will be remaining. They are building a new caravan park across the road closer to the Murray River - convenient for fishing and boating.
The re-developed Waikerie Caravan Park will have a range of luxury cabins, backpacker units as well as a large number of caravan and camping sites (luxury ensuite sites to camping). They will also be upgrading all park facilities. The Waikerie Caravan Park that we saw was very neat and tidy so I can only imagine the new park will be just as well presented.
The Waikerie Caravan Park that we looked at had the following features:
There was a stall selling local produce at the entrance to the caravan park and the prices were very good. A local farmer brings the goods in every day fresh from his lot. The Waikerie Caravan Park (old and new) are walking distance to shops, clubs, restaurants and the Waikerie Bakery (best sausage roll we had all trip). A vehicular ferry crosses the Murray River at Waikerie. This is a lovely country town in the Riverland region of South Australia only about 2 hours drive form Adelaide
The re-development of the Waikerie Caravan Park will lead to a world class, state Caravan Park on the Riverfront in Waikerie. This park will leverage the Riverland's competitive advantage in tourism including its riverside location only 1.5 hours from Adelaide, natural beauty, agricultural economy, world class events and, of course, country hospitality.
The re-developed Waikerie Caravan Park will be significantly upgrading all of its accommodation and park facilities. The re-developed park will feature 30 tourist cabins ranging from 3.5 to 4.5 star luxury cabins as well as 6 backpacker units. This diversity will allow the Caravan Park to capitalise on both the luxury and budget accommodation markets and provide much needed backpacker accommodation for the fruit picking industry. The Caravan Park will also provide 103 caravan/camping sites ranging from luxury en-suite sites to camping grounds.
