Our articles have been grouped into locations so you can better read about what there is to see and do in a town.
It's easy, start by picking a location. Each article has a link to an RvTrips' web page containing more detailed information, photos and maps.
While visiting Winton we stayed at the Matilda Country Tourist Park on Chirnside Street. We had a fairly flat powered site at the rear of the park and this was very quiet. The driveways are covered with gravel but you will need to watch the trees growing in the centre of some of the access points - make sure the caravan will fit under the branches.
Matilda Country Tourist Park has powered, un-powered caravan and motorhome sites, as well as self-contained cabins available for visitors. There are plenty of shaded spots to park the van as well as an in-ground pool, barbeque areas, a dump point, hot showers etc.
The North Gregory Hotel is located on Elderslie Street (the main street) of Winton, Queensland. The first public performance of Waltzing Matilda was in the Hotel in 1895 and this place has quite a history. The Hotel has been burnt down three times with the current building completed in 1955. The front windows of the hotel opens up so that patrons can enjoy a drink overlooking the main street. There are even lounge chairs on the pavement to relax and chat to locals as they pass.
There are a number of rooms available at the North Gregory if you require accommodation for the night. They also offer un-powered caravan sites out the back where you can leave the car hooked up for an overnight stay. You use the amenities in the hotel with access to the laundromat, showers, WiFi and other hotel facilities. North Gregory Hotel has a dining room, beer garden and a bar where you can order takeaway, snacks, tea, coffee and, of course, beer or wine.
We stopped by for one drink before heading home for the evening.
Tattersalls Hotel is located on the corner of Elderslie and Werna Streets, downtown Winton, Queensland. There are dining tables set up on the sidewalk under the shade of the beautiful verandah running the length of the Hotel. The Restaurant seemed very popular and every table was occupied when we stopped by for a look at the menu. Tattersalls offers accommodation within the hotel and all rooms have fans, air conditioning and shared facilities.
Across the road is a caravan park with lots of space and flat sites. There are about 30 powered spaces (clean amenities), and is conveniently located within walking distance of the Matilda Centre (Visitor Information), shops and of course Tattersalls Hotel.
I am told that at dusk you will often see kangaroos jumping down the street - this looks like a friendly, relaxing place.
