We stayed at Karumba Point Tourist Park during our travels around outback Queensland. It is easily found on Karumba Point Road and is very well known for their free fish barbeques - from May to July. (Unfortunately they started the week after our stay). The caravan park is full of people who come and stay for 3 months (or more) with their fishing boats - crowded but friendly.
Karumba Point Caravan Park is a short walk to Kurumba Point and we enjoyed watching the sunset over the Gulf of Carpentaria from the Sunset Tavern. At Karumba Point you will find a beach for some shore fishing and a very good boat ramp if you want to head out into the Gulf or up the river to catch a Barramundi.
The Karumba Point Tourist Park has powered and un-powered sites at reasonable rates. For people without their own vans, there are air-conditioned onsite caravans available. This park has a swimming pool, clean amenities, camp kitchen, fish cleaning area. and a very unique dump station (a toilet set up outside the amenities - 'The Loo with a View'). The Office has items such as craft products, basic groceries, bait, seafood, ice and, of course, souvenirs for sale.
During our stay at the Karumba Point Tourist Park the water was cut off due to a burst main at Normanton. The staff quickly swung into action and placed garbage bins full of water (from their tanks), plus buckets, at the entrance to each amenities block so that we could flush the toilet. I thought this was great service. We enjoyed our stay at Karumba Point and cannot wait to return - what a relaxing spot.
Karumba Point Service Station can be found on Karumba Point Road, Karumba Point, Queensland. This is a very convenient place for boat-owners to refuel before heading out into the Gulf. The Service Station offers a vehicle repair workshop, tyres new/repairs or alignments and is a an RACQ contractor for vehicle recovery (towing).
There is a small caravan park located behind the Karumba Point Service Station that offers dongas, grassy caravan sites, plenty of shade and easy access to Karumba Point. The shop at this service station sells fishing tackle, bait and prawns. The Karumba Point Service Station (and Caravan Park) backs onto the water and there seems to be space to park the boat during your stay.
Karumba Point Sunset Caravan Park is located on Palmer Street at Karumba Point, Queensland. This is a very large park which was busy during our visit to the area. It is across the road from the boat ramp for easy access to the Gulf of Carpentaria and the Norman River for a spot of Barramundi fishing.
We had friends staying her and called in to visit - they had a lovely shaded site and were enjoying their stay. This park has a range of cabins, villas, campsites (powered and un-powered) for tents and caravans. They offer a free barbeque, a great undercover eating area, and the cafe provides meals and entertainment (I understand the spit roast night is very popular). The amenities were very clean and the lovely swimming pool area is surrounded by beautiful palm trees.
The Karumba Point Sunset Caravan Park provides a fish cleaning area if you are lucky enough to catch anything. There is a mini-mart with tackle and souvenirs or you can shop at the Seabreeze Convenience Store nearby.
