BIG4 Aussie Outback Oasis Holiday Park     Read more ...

During our travels in outback Queensland we stayed at the Aussie Outback Oasis Cabin & Van Village - a BIG4 caravan park in Charters Towers. This beautiful park is only about three kilometres from the town centre - easy access to all the attractions and tours of the area. We had a great drive-through site which was located close to the main amenities block with plenty of space to relax during our stay. The staff are happy to help with caravan parking and even offer a valet service.

Luckily our stay included a Wednesday when you can join the staff for morning tea - a gold coin donation is requested for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Billy tea made over the camp fire and homemade scones – pumpkin, fruit and plain – with jam and cream. All delicious with an opportunity to chat to fellow travellers, staff and managers/owners of the BIG4. This morning tea is served in the Bushman's Kitchen surrounded by a collection of historic objects from the area. We found all the staff at the park to be very friendly and seem to enjoy their work - even happy to cook for this the morning tea each week. Meals are provided on certain nights of the week for a small fee and I understand these are also very popular

The park has beautifully maintained gardens and offers a range of accommodation - powered and un-powered grassed and slab sites for caravans or camping. The range of cabins or villas suit singles, couples, families and groups of friends travelling together. The park was very busy during our stay but at no time did it feel crowded.

The amenities are very clean - only comment is that there are separate entrances to the toilet block and shower block - both require you to enter a pin. There is a separate disabled shower/toilet room and another amenities block at the back of the park (behind which is the dump point). The camp kitchen is large and has free electric BBQ's, microwave, kettle & toaster - this was a very popular meeting place. The BIG4 Outback Oasis Cabin and Van Village is dog friendly and has plenty of shade trees.

The office will make tour bookings for you and have a great book exchange, kiosk, loan board games - plus they are very friendly and welcoming. Beside the office is a deck area with seating to have a cuppa. As you can see from the photos there is a giant jumping pillow for the kids and a beautiful pool area close to reception.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the BIG4 in Charters Towers and would happily recommend this caravan park to friends and family.

Charters Towers Tourist Park     Read more ...

Charters Towers Tourist Park is a Top Tourist caravan park located just off the Flinders Highway (Mt Leyshon Road), Charters Towers. While staying in Charters Towers we headed out to look at the Top Tourist park and take some photos. The Park has plenty of shade and seems to be set in a quiet location off the main road.

They have a range of accommodation - cabins and units that sleep from one to eight people - as well as powered and un-powered sites for caravans, camper trailers, motor homes, tents, etc (ensuite, slab or grass). Maxine and Steve suggested that we book if travelling during the busy months (May to October).

They were very helpful and provided us with information about the Charters Towers Tourist Park - wi-fi, shop/kiosk on site with fresh bread 6 days a week, range of beers and wine on sale, a lovely pool area, a camp kitchen (fridge, microwave, hot plates, BBQ, tables, chairs and washing up facilities), clean amenities and a new laundry. During the winter months they have happy hour with entertainment and, organise dinners in support of local community groups. This Top Tourist park is dog friendly.

Dalrymple Tourist Van Park     Read more ...

Dalrymple Tourist Van Park is located just off the Gregory Developmental Road as you head into Charters Towers from the north (about 1.8 kilometres from the city centre). The caravan park is right next to the Charters Towers Golf Club and is a perfect place to stay if you are travelling with your clubs (or the park have hire sticks available).

We called in to take some photos and look around - very welcoming with plenty of shade and well maintained gardens. They offer a range of accommodation - fully self contained cabins, grass and slab powered sites, ensuite powered sites and large grassy camping areas - space provided for large rigs. The park has a lovely saltwater pool with children's wading pool and a jumping pillow to keep the kids entertained. A really large covered camp kitchen (with fridge, stove, oven & microwave, BBQs) and plenty of seating. The park also has a dump point, kiosk - the amenities looked old but very clean.

The resident owners are Brad & Tanya Chilton who were friendly and want to make sure you enjoy your stay - they offer wi-fi, potocopying and have a safe to protect any valuables you may not want to leave in the van during the day. Social events are organised during winter (the busy season) which include morning tea, evening BBQs and campfires to sit and have a yarn with fellow travellers - we have found this is a great way to meet people on the road.

Dalrymple Tourist Van Park allows pets in your van or tent. We thought this park was in a great location and easy to access while travelling around Queensland.
