During a recent caravan trip through Victoria and Western NSW we spent a few days at the BIG4 Forbes Holiday Park. This BIG4 park is very well presented. Their grassy sites are among the best we've seen. There is also plenty of shade from mature trees offering protection from the hot summer weather. We enjoyed a drive-through site with gravel driveway and slab. Part of our site included a lovely grassed area (shaded) to sit and relax while enjoying the country air.
The camp kitchen is open and well equipped with outdoor settings and a lounge at one end to relax in while watching television - they even provide a pedestal fan to offer comfort to users during summer. There are gas barbeques in the centre of the area and café tables out front under the shade - a popular spot with guests.
The amenities are key operated, conveniently located in the centre of the park and clean. A pool is located at the front of the park opposite the office/reception area – another very popular spot. As the park filled up in the late afternoon, the van owners quickly headed to the pool to cool down on the 38+ degree days. On the other side of the entrance is a children’s playground, picnic table and a jumping pillow – fully enclosed to keep the young ones safe.
We found all powered sites to be quite large and suitable for a range of vehicles. Our site was close to the camp kitchen and was shaded most of the day - perfect for keeping the caravan cool. Located next door was a lovely vegetable garden available to guests of the park.
Ali and Warren Plummer are the friendly owners of this BIG4 who welcomed us upon arrival explaining the best way to access our site. All too easy. All guests are asked to use the drains provided to reduce ants and flies which feed on scraps that may flow from your grey water hose.
The park is pet-friendly and has two cabins available for your furry friend - these have a small enclosed area at the rear to let your pet off the leash. A great idea and the first of its type seen in our travels! This pet friendly accommodation is only available for bookings over the phone so please ring Ali or Warren to confirm that one of these special cabins is available during your visit.
BIG4 Forbes Holiday park also allows up to four dogs per site when staying in caravans, motor-homes or campers but you are asked not to leave them locked up when you venture out. Please check with management upon arrival if travelling with pets.
There are a range of cabins, which were full almost every evening during our stay at the park. Some of the cabins even have enough space alongside to park your car and a boat. The park is a short walk to the river and a short drive to town. Some restaurants were offering meal delivery. We can highly recommend Cafe Aglio & Olio for great Italian food and wood-fired pizzas, delivered for $3 (they will call from the entrance upon arrival).
Forbes is a lovely town, located on the Newell Highway and the BIG4 Forbes Holiday Park is in a convenient location, perfect for a overnight stay for those driving from Queensland towards Victoria (or vice versa).
